Dr Tanja Nishibata

Tanja has been working as a chiropractor in Australia since 2002, building on her studies in athletic therapy and applied science in Canada. An accomplished sportswoman and experienced chiropractor, Tanja brings real-world personal experience to her treatments. Tanja is passionate abour helping you to get the most out of your body, whether it’s healing an existing injury or complaint, existing, or helping you to avoid them in the future.

Specialising in sports and spinal rehabilitation, Tanja treats a variety of conditions, including:

  • neck to lower back pain
  • migraines and headaches
  • muscle pain and instability
  • TMJ (temporomandibular joint dysfunction/syndrome)
  • joint and soft tissue injuries

Treatment techniques include:

  • chiropractic manual therapy – manual diversified adjustments
  • conservative therapies – SOT blocks, activator, muscule manipulation, soft/deep tissue therapy, active stretch muscle release
  • muscle/core stimulation
  • rehabilitation including pro-active stretching
  • sport taping

Tanja started competitive sports from a very young age. Once she could walk, her parents put her on ice skates! Excelling in multple disciplines, figure skating became Tanja’s main focus, competing at National and International level by her mid-teens. Swapping the skates for oars, Tanja swapped from the ice to the water, taking up rowing. National single sculling champion in her age group in consecutive years, Tanja is a dominant force on the Australian Masters Rowing Circuit. Tanja has also been a core member of the Victorian Women’s Interstate Masters crews over the past decade or more, predominately in the quad scull. Contributing to her sport and club off the water as well as on it, Tanja is a Life Member with Melbourne Rowing Club, awarded for her decade-long commitment as Club Captain.
As well as treating individual patients, Tanja has been the sports trainer for amateur football clubs and was the Sports Chiropractor for teh Roxy Pro Surf team in Fiji in 2002.
As a competitive athlete, Tanja has been through several periods of injury rehabiliation herself, working with top sports therapists in physical therapy and sports psychology for the best recovery.
Tanja is unique as a chiropractor specialising in sport and spinal rehabiliation.  She applies her knowledge, understanding, experience and passion with how she treats each patient.
